Dane County Community Development Block Grant

Funded Projects

The following examples provide insight on the types of projects that have been assisted with a loan from the CDBG Revolving Loan Fund.

Yahara Grocery Store

Yahara River Grocery Cooperative

The Yahara River Grocery Cooperative (YRGC) is a locally owned community grocery cooperative in downtown Stoughton, WI that offers high value local and organic products in addition to traditional food items. With the help from a 2010 CDBG loan from Dane County, the YRGC was able to secure the financing needed to renew the grocery store by expanding and modernizing the existing facility. Funds were used for operating capital for expanded inventory and marketing, additional staffing, and new store features such as a meat department and deli counter. The project met a HUD National Objective by creating 7 new jobs, over half of which were taken by or made available to low- to moderate-income residents of Dane County.

Pizza Hut

PLH & Associates

PLH & Associates received a CDBG loan to purchase a blighted property in the Village of Oregon that was developed into a 4,000 square foot multi-tenant commercial building. The redevelopment of the one-acre site included demolition and site clearance of the previously existing structures and construction of the multi-tenant commercial building including 26 parking stalls. The new development has attracted several profitable tenants into the building that have contributed to more than 40 new jobs being created as a result of the project.
